Art's Statement:

My grandfather Art, owned a small dairy farm in Michigan. My early memories include this dairy barn where my mother worked as a girl helping take care and milk the herd. By the time I was visiting as a child the barn was empty, a quiet artifact of its past life.

Barn quilts adorn barns and show the personality of the owners an operators. They communicate and honor the heritage and tradition of the ancestors that came before. Often designed to mimic the hand made patchwork quilts that kept those farmers warm in their beds. This barn quilt honors the long hours of work of my mother and grandfather put in their barn.
