Art's Statement:
Hay is king in Ellensburg, Washington where I live. Regularly these New Holland Stackcruisers roll by on their ways to or from the hay fields, that fill our valley. Mechanically collecting and stacking bales of hay on their platform as they go..
I am interested in the standard square format of a Barn Quilt and the often visual punchiness of their color and patterns. In this work I was trying to take advantage of the yellowish brown color of the reclaimed metal shelf that I painted the image on. It already carried so much of the color we see in the fields when the hay is dried and ready for baling.
Barns have also long served as billboards and surfaces for advertisements. This Barn Quilt starts to venture into the territory of commercial with its proclamation of the sought after First Cut.
